ことのは いち犬？

先週は、ご帰国のため学習者さんがお一人卒業され、入れ替わりで、新しい学習さんとの出会いがありました。
とても頑張っていらっしゃり、私もたくさんのことを勉強させてもらいました。ありがとうございました。
さて、今日は久しぶりに、日本語の数え方です。混乱しますね。
学習者さんも、いち、に、さん・・・は頭に入っているので、頑張って話してくれようとするのですが、ちょっと違います。
犬を数えるときに、「1犬、2犬」になったり、人を数えるときに「１ひと」になったりします。
家族の人数を聞かれたり、言ったりする機会は多いですし、同時に、飼っている動物について聞いたり、言ったりすることも多いので、犬や猫の数え方と人の数え方もマスターしたいですね。
人は、ひとり、ふたり、さんにん、よにん・・・です。「ひとり」と「ふたり」「よにん」が注意ですね。それから、「ひと」でなく、数えるときは「にん」です。
また、犬や猫は「匹」なのですが、これも、お金や時間のように、「ひき」と「びき」と「ぴき」があります。数え方は、「いっぴき、にひき、さんびき、よんひき、ごひき、ろっぴき、ななひき、はっぴき、きゅうひき、じゅっぴき」です。くり返して練習して覚えていけるといいですね。
まずは、自分の家族や兄弟姉妹、飼っているペットの数から覚えていくと、色んな場面で役立つと思いますよ。

They are working very hard, and I have also learned a lot from them. Thank you so much.
Now, today’s topic is counting in Japanese—it’s been a while! Counting can be confusing, can’t it?
My students know ichi, ni, san… very well and try their best to use them, but sometimes they get them a little mixed up.
For example, they might say “1 inu, 2 inu” when counting dogs, or “1 hito” when counting people.
We often have opportunities to ask or talk about the number of people in our family, and at the same time, it’s also common to ask or talk about pets we have. So, it’s good to master how to count both people and animals like dogs and cats.
For people, it’s hitori, futari, sannin, yonin… — Be careful with hitori, futari, and yonin. Also, remember that when counting, we use -nin instead of hito.
As for dogs and cats, the counter is 匹 (hiki), but like money and time, the pronunciation changes to hiki, biki, or piki.
The counting pattern is:
ippiki, nihiki, sanbiki, yonhiki, gohiki, roppiki, nanahiki, happiki, kyuuhiki, juppiki.
It’s best to practice repeatedly until you can remember them naturally.
It’s a good idea to start by learning how to count your own family members, siblings, and pets — you’ll find it useful in many situations.
