ことのは 表現が広がる瞬間と学習者さんの自信

今週は、２名の学習者さんとの新しくレッスンがスタートしました。
とてもたのしいスタートでした。ありがとうございました。
「それは、ちょっと・・・」。この表現は、断るときの表現です。日本人は、ストレートに言わず、遠回しに、そして、できません、ダメです。という言葉は言いません。わかってほしいという表現です。
昨日もこの表現がある会話練習をしました。誘いに対して、喜んだり断ったり、いろんなシーンを提示して練習しました。もちろん、誘い方も一緒に練習です。
そしたら、誘い方、喜ぶ、断るの表現がたくさんでてきました。テキストのモデルの表現だけでなく、考えて、知っているボキャブラリーを使って、少しプラスして長い表現が使えました。使った後は、正しいかどうか確認してきましたが、全部perfect！その時の嬉しそうな表情を見て、私もとても嬉しかったです。
自分で考え、まずは知っている知識を使ってみる。こういう行動が大切ですね。そして、ジェスチャーをつけることで、体得しながら、色んなことが学習できたと思います。
こうしたひとつの成功体験が自信になり、また次につながっていくと思います。

The moment expression expands and the learner’s confidence

This week, I started new lessons with two learners.
Thank you so much.
The theme was “Well, um… that’s a little…”. This is an expression used when turning something down. Japanese people tend not to say things directly; instead, they express refusal in a roundabout, softer way, without using strong words like “I can’t” or “No.” It’s a way of saying, “I hope you understand.”
We also practiced a conversation using this expression yesterday. I presented various situations—responding happily to an invitation or declining it—and we practiced the dialogues.Of course, practising how to invite people is part of it too.
Then, how to invitation, many different expressions for accepting and declining came up. Not only the model expressions from the textbook, but the learners also thought on their own and used the vocabulary they already knew to build slightly longer and richer expressions. After using these expressions, they asked whether they were correct—every one of them was perfect! Seeing their happy faces made me very happy too.
Thinking for yourself and first trying to use the knowledge you already have—this kind of action is important. And by adding gestures, I think they were able to physically experience and internalize what they were learning.
These small moments of success build confidence and lead to further progress.
