私は、レッスン以外でも、日本語を長く学習された方とお話する機会がよくあります。ある方は、日常会話は問題なくきれいに話されますが、スピードがかなり遅く、「私は、いつも頭の中で文法を考えてから話します。」と言われました。「うーーーん、なるほど。」 そして、次に「自信をもっとつけてから、話したい」とも言われました。「うーーん。。。」
文法を優先に勉強されてきたのですね。
一方、会話練習を通して日本語を学習した方や、アニメなどから日本語を習得した方は、話すスピードが速いように思います。そして、間違えることに問題を感じていないような気がします。
考えているととっさの時に話せませんよね。私も海外で歯がゆい経験をたくさんしました。
語学の学習をするとき、文法も語彙も大切です。でも、それらはすべて日常のシーンや会話の中にあるんですよね。
だから、「ことのは」では、アウトプットにフォーカスしたレッスンをしています。会話練習をしながら、どんな場面でどのように表現するのかを体得していくレッスンです。会話練習を通して表現は学べます。そして、「できる」「できた」を積み重ね、自信をつけていって欲しいと思っています。

I often have opportunities to talk with people who have studied Japanese for a long time, even outside of lessons. One person, for example, can handle everyday conversation smoothly and speak beautifully, but their speaking speed is quite slow. They told me, “I always think about grammar in my head before I speak.”
I thought, “Hmmm, I see.”
Then they also said, “I’d like to speak only after I gain more confidence.”
And I went, “Hmmmm…”
It seems that they prioritized grammar in their studies.
On the other hand, people who learned Japanese through conversation practice, or through anime and similar sources, tend to speak much faster. They also don’t seem to worry too much about making mistakes.
When you think too much, you can’t respond quickly in the moment, right? I myself had many frustrating experiences abroad because of this.
When learning a language, grammar and vocabulary are, of course, important. But all of that exists within everyday situations and conversations. That’s why, at “Kotonoha,” we focus on output-based lessons. Through conversation practice, students learn how to express themselves in different situations. You can naturally acquire expressions through practice, and by building up small achievements of “I can do it!” and “I did it!” you will gain confidence.
