ことのは 漢字練習は時間管理が大変

私の学習者さんは、みなさん、漢字が大好きです。デザインとして好きな人、意味がおもしろいから好きな人、色々です。漢字や名言を書いたTシャツを着て、レッスンに参加される方もいます。
大阪城に行ったときに、「勇」とプリントしてあるTシャツを着ている外国人観光客の方に会い、二度見をしてしまい、「どこで買いましたか？」とたずねると、「日本」と教えてくれました。そして、英語の意味を教えてくださいと言われました。
英語の意味がすぐには出てこなかったのですが・・・・
でも、その漢字に惹かれるものがあったんでしょうね。うれしそうでした。
私の学習者さんも、惹かれる漢字に出会うと、夢中になって書く練習をされるので、次のステップにいきたいけどタイムオーバーになることがあります。
これは、私の問題なのですが、アドバイスをするとまた書き始めてしまったり、質問が多かったりします。また、その漢字について色んな説明なども始めてしまうと、完全にタイムアウトです。
私も、長い間、書道を習っていたので、ちょっと漢字には力が入ってしまいます。。。
ただ、漢字の練習を始めてから、モチベーション高く学習されるかたも多くなったので、時間調整しながら、これからも続けていきたいと思います。
また、書くだけにとどまらず、いろんなアクティビティと繋げて、漢字習得に向けていきたいと思います。

It’s hard to manage time when practicing kanji

All of my students love kanji. Some like them for their design, others because they find the meanings interesting — there are many reasons. Some even wear T-shirts with kanji or famous sayings printed on them when they come to lessons.
When I visited Osaka Castle, I saw a foreign tourist wearing a T-shirt with the kanji “勇” (bravery) printed on it. I did a double-take and asked, “Where did you buy that?” They said, “In Japan.” Then they asked me, “What does it mean in English?”
The English meaning didn’t come to me right away…
But I suppose they were drawn to that character somehow. They looked so happy.
My students, too, get completely absorbed in writing practice when they encounter a kanji that captivates them. Sometimes we run out of time even though they want to move on to the next step.
That’s actually my problem — when I give advice, they start writing again or ask lots of questions. And if I begin explaining too much about the kanji itself, we completely run out of time.
I studied calligraphy for a long time myself, so I tend to get a little too passionate about kanji…
However, since we started practicing writing kanji, many students have become more motivated to learn. So, I’d like to keep doing this while managing our time better.
Also, I’d like to connect writing practice with various other activities to help everyone master kanji more effectively.
