ことのは 答え合わせだけじゃない

今朝は起きたら「雪」でした。寒い～。でも、今は日差しがあり良い天気です。
今日のLessonは、学習したTopicの文法の復習をしました。宿題でワークブックをしてきてもらって、その答えをチェックです。
といっても、「正解、不正解」だけで終わりません。間違ったところはもちろんですが、また文法を使って会話を拡げて練習です。
ウィークポイントもわかるので、わからない理由や、むずかしい理由も聞きながら復習と実践の繰り返しです。
ただ、今日は、さらに深い話までできました。
答えを聞くだけなら、「日本語の勉強はむずかしいけど、楽しいです。」と表現も間違っていないので、終わりですが、今日は、この答えから、今できていることできていないこと、今後チャレンジしたいこと、いつまでに何をするのか、レッスンの進み方や内容についてどう思っているかなどなど、たくさんの対話ができました。
結果、レッスンのスケジュール、進み方の調整をしました。
私は、これが良いと思っていても、学習者さんはどう思っているのかわかりません。改めて確認するときもありますが、自然の流れで確認できたこと、それについて、学習者さんが、正しい日本語で、自分の意見を言えたことは、大きな収穫でした。

It’s more than just checking answers.

When I woke up this morning, it was snowing. So cold! But now the sun is out, and the weather is beautiful.
Today’s lesson was a review of the grammar from the topic we studied. My student completed the workbook as homework, and we checked the answers together.
However, we don’t stop at just “correct” or “incorrect.”
For mistakes, of course we review them carefully, but we also expand the conversation using the grammar points and practice them in context.
By doing this, we can clearly see the student’s weak points. I ask why certain parts are difficult or confusing, and we repeat the cycle of review and practical use.
Today, though, we were even able to go deeper.
If I had only checked the answer, “Learning Japanese is difficult, but fun,” we could have finished there because the expression itself is correct.
But today, from that single answer, we expanded the conversation into many topics: what the student can do now, what they feel they haven’t mastered yet, what they want to challenge themselves with, what goals they want to achieve by when, and how they feel about the lesson pace and content.
As a result, we adjusted the lesson schedule and how we move forward.
Even if I think my approach is good, I don’t always know how the learner feels. I sometimes check directly, but today we were able to confirm these things naturally through conversation. And the fact that the student could express their thoughts clearly in proper Japanese was a major achievement.
