ことのは 万能フレーズの正体
みなさん、こんにちは。
今日から、「よろしくおねがいします」という言葉について考えていきたいと思います。よろしくおねがいします。
日本の生活で、よく耳にする言葉のひとつに、「よろしくお願いします」という言葉があります。 自己紹介、仕事の依頼、メールの最後……私たちは無意識に、一日に何度もこの言葉を口にしているように思います。
これを、英語に直そうとすると、ぴったりの言葉が見つかりません。
レッスンをスタートすると、まず、「よろしくお願いしますは、英語でなんと言いますか？」と必ずと言っていいほど質問されますが、的確に英語では答えることができません。
英語では、出会った時は “Nice to meet you”、メールの最後は “Best regards”、何かを頼む時は “Please” と状況ごとに言葉を使い分けますが、日本語ではこの一言ですべてが完結します。
なぜ一言で完結するのか？それは、この言葉が単なる「あいさつ」ではなく、相手との間で「未来への約束」のような意味を含むからかもしれません。
自己紹介や仕事のお願いをするときは、お互いのこれからに期待をしたり、共に頑張っていきたいという気持ちを持ちます。
「今はまだ何も始まっていないけれど、これから始まる関係を良いものにしたい」という願いが、この短い言葉にぎゅっと詰まっているのではないでしょうか。
まさに、「よろしくおねがいします」は魔法のフレーズですね。

Today, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the phrase ‘Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.’ So, to get us started—yoroshiku onegaishimasu!
In Japan, this is one of the phrases we hear most often. Whether we are introducing ourselves, requesting work, or signing off on an email, we seem to say it dozens of times a day almost unconsciously.
However, when you try to translate this into English, it’s hard to find a perfect equivalent. In fact, whenever I start a lesson, I am almost always asked, ‘How do you say yoroshiku onegaishimasu in English?’ and I can never give a single, precise answer.
In English, we choose different expressions depending on the situation: ‘Nice to meet you’ when meeting someone, ‘Best regards’ at the end of an email, or ‘Please’ when asking for a favor. In Japanese, however, this one phrase covers everything.
Why is it so versatile? Perhaps it’s because it isn’t just a simple greeting; it carries a deeper meaning, like a ‘promise for the future’ between two people.
When we introduce ourselves or ask for help with a task, we do so with a sense of anticipation for what’s to come and a desire to work well together. It’s as if this short phrase is packed with the sentiment: ‘Nothing has started yet, but I hope for our future relationship to be a good one.’
In that sense, ‘Yoroshiku onegaishimasu’ truly is a magic phrase.
