ことのは 万能フレーズの正体 －The Secret Behind the All-Purpose Phrase
みなさん、こんにちは。
今日から、「よろしくおねがいします」という言葉について考えていきたいと思います。よろしくおねがいします。
日本の生活で、よく耳にする言葉のひとつに、「よろしくお願いします」という言葉があります。 自己紹介、仕事の依頼、メールの最後……私たちは無意識に、一日に何度もこの言葉を口にしているように思います。
これを、英語に直そうとすると、ぴったりの言葉が見つかりません。
レッスンをスタートすると、まず、「よろしくお願いしますは、英語でなんと言いますか？」と必ずと言っていいほど質問されますが、的確に英語では答えることができません。
英語では、出会った時は “Nice to meet you”、メールの最後は “Best regards”、何かを頼む時は “Please” と状況ごとに言葉を使い分けますが、日本語ではこの一言ですべてが完結します。
なぜ一言で完結するのか？それは、この言葉が単なる「あいさつ」ではなく、相手との間で「未来への約束のような」意味を含むからかもしれません。
自己紹介や仕事のお願いをするときは、お互いのこれからの未来に期待をしたり、共に頑張っていきたいと言う気持ちを持ちます。「今はまだ何も始まっていないけれど、これから始まる関係を良いものにしたい」という願いが、この短い言葉にぎゅっと詰まっているのだと思います。
「よろしくおねがいします」は魔法のフレーズですね。

From today, I would like to explore the phrase ‘Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu’ with you. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu.”
In daily life in Japan, “Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu” is a phrase you will hear constantly. Whether it’s at the end of a self-introduction, when requesting work, or closing an email—we find ourselves saying it almost unconsciously many times a day.
When you try to translate this into English, however, you’ll find there isn’t a single perfect equivalent.
Whenever I start a lesson, almost every student asks, “How do you say ‘Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu’ in English?” But truthfully, there is no direct answer.
In English, we choose different phrases depending on the context: “Nice to meet you” for a first meeting, “Best regards” at the end of an email, or “Please” when asking for a favor. Yet,
in Japanese, this one single phrase covers it all.
Why does it work so universally? Perhaps it’s because it is more than just a “greeting”—it carries a meaning similar to a “promise for the future.”
When we introduce ourselves or ask for help with a task, we do so with hope for our future together and a desire to work hard alongside one another. I believe this short phrase is packed with the wish: “Nothing has started yet, but I want to make our upcoming relationship a great one.”
“Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu” truly is a magical phrase, isn’t it?
