ことのは ちがいは何ですか？

最近、レッスンで質問が続いています。
①「たのしい」と「おもしろい」の使い分けはどうしますか？
②「通り」と「道」の違いは何ですか？
③「助けてください」と「手伝ってください」の違いは何ですか？
②と③は英訳が同じなので、学習者さんが「？」になりました。リアルなシーンで説明して理解できたようですが、「むずかしいです」と言われました。
そして、今日はJLPT対策のレッスンだったので、言い換えている言葉についての質問もありました。
私が困ったのは①です。
どんな風に使い分けているかな？と考えました。どちらも使えるシーンはあると思いますが、感覚的に使っているように思います。ともかく、その場で調べて、一緒に話し合いながら、レッスンをしました。
正直、レッスンをしていると、その場で、すぐに答えることができないときもあります。考えたことがないことも質問されます。でも、そういうときは、一緒に調べて考えるようにしています。
なるほどと気づきももらうことができて、感謝ですね。
スルーするのか取り繕うのか、わからないと認めて一緒に調べるのか、わからないということより、どのように向き合っていくかが大切ですね。

What is the difference?

Recently, I’ve been getting many questions during lessons.
- How do you distinguish between “tanoshii” (fun/enjoyable) and “omoshiroi” (interesting/amusing)?
- What is the difference between “tōri” and “michi”?
- What is the difference between “tasukete kudasai” (please help/save me) and “tetsudatte kudasai” (please assist me)?
Questions ② and ③ have the same English translation, so the learners were confused.
After explaining through real-life situations, they seemed to understand, but they still said, “It’s difficult.”
And today was a JLPT-preparation lesson, so there were also questions about paraphrased expressions.
The one I struggled with was question ①.
I wondered, “How do we really distinguish the two?”
There are situations where both can be used, and I feel we often use them based on intuition.
Anyway, I looked it up on the spot, and we discussed it together during the lesson.
To be honest, when teaching, there are times when I can’t answer right away.
Sometimes I’m asked things I’ve never thought about before.
But in such cases, I try to look it up and think together with the student.
I’m grateful because I also gain new insights and realizations through this process.
Rather than ignoring the question or pretending to know, acknowledging that I don’t know and exploring together is important—it’s not about “not knowing,” but about how we deal with it.
